Every Drop Count: Daily Water Use in Households
30 Jun, 2026

For our Water Video Project, our group chose to focus on daily household water use, especially shower habits and water recycling. We chose this topic because these two problems are easy to ignore in ordinary family life. For example, many people take long showers, leave water running before bathing, or throw away usable water after washing or cleaning. Since water is a precious resource, we wanted our video to remind people that homes can save a large amount of water through small changes.

To support our video with real evidence, we designed a survey about middle school students’ household water habits and awareness of water conservation. The survey included questions about shower time, water-recycling behavior, the activities that use the most water at home, and people’s attitudes toward saving water. We collected 52 valid responses from middle school students and then presented the results through charts. The data showed three important findings.

First, 42.31% of students said they usually spend more than ten minutes taking a shower. Second, bathing was selected as the largest water-consuming household activity by 71.15% of the respondents. Third, 51.92% of students reported that their families do not reuse wastewater. These results showed us that water waste at home is not only an individual habit but also a common problem. Based on these findings, we developed our video around the connection between daily habits and water conservation.

Looking back on this project, I learned more than just facts about water. I also practiced important academic and practical skills. As the video editor, I learned how to select useful materials, categorize clips, match background music with the message, and make the video clearer for the audience. During the collaboration process, I also improved my teamwork skills because every member had a different role and we had to support each other. More importantly, this project helped me connect textbook knowledge with real life. Before doing the survey, I knew that water conservation was important, but I did not realize how common these problems were in daily household water use. Through this project, I understood that research, data, and creative communication can work together to raise awareness and encourage action in the community.
